Manihiki Club

A very rare club inlaid with small roundels of pearl-shell. The British Museum has a few items from this island decorated in the same way. The population of Manihiki was always very small (1200 at its height) consequently, objects from this island are incredibly scarce. Probably the most well known items from this area are the boat models. Very good condition and a dark oxidised surface. 19th century.
