Kavadi Panels

54. Two very old panels encrusted with libations. The word “Kavadi” means burden in Tamil and refers to a physical and spiritual burden carried by the devotee. These two panels would have formed the sides of a structure that would have been carried in a procession, the devotee would also have their skin pierced with spikes  and skewers, this would help them reach a trance state.

Eroded and repaired some losses.
