Headrest

204. A classic Zulu headrest that has been converted into an ink stand. The silver mounts are hallmarked London 1903. found in the attics of Locko Park, Derbyshire.

It is highly possible  that this headrest was brought back by one of the sons of William Drury Holden the owner of Locko Park in the 19th century. Sir Drury Curzon Drury-Lowe served in the Zulu war and was injured at Ulundi. He was sent back to South Africa in 1881 to command the Cavalry Brigade in the Transvaal and was promoted as Major-General. R.H.C. Drury-Lowe served in the war in South Africa (1857-1859) and V.F.Keppel Drury-Lowe also spent time in South Africa in the 19th century.
