Pole Club

25. A dense hardwood club with fine tavatava carving to the grip. The butt is inlaid with a star shape of marine ivory. Often mistaken for ‘Bowai’ but the lack of a flare towards either end identifies this as a ‘Gadi’ named after the type of wood used.

96cm long.

Fiji.

19th century.
