Brass Dish

254. Many of these dishes appear in museums and archives and are described as Asante. They were actually made in the U.K. and are machine pressed brass. They appear to come in two different versions but if you look closely most found are this ‘model’ and they are all identical. Like many other items they were produced exclusively for a colonial market and traded for local items. Eventually many were collected in the countries where they have been used for several years and so have signs of use and repairs (such as this example) These seem to have been marketed amongst the Asante and this would explain the erroneous Provence found connected to all? of them.
