Beaded Doll

248. A large beaded doll probably dating to the late 19th century. This doll is reminiscent of the ‘Bottle’ dolls of the Sudan but also reminds me of Swahili dolls, such as the ones illustrated in Kurt Kriegers ‘Ostafrikanische Plastik’  This doll is very heavy and may be filled with sand? it is embellished with various traded materials. The lattice bead work coupled with the colour of the beads and the general form point towards the Sudan but I cannot find a similar object in any reference.
