Bushman Eggs

146. An important collection of Bushman ostrich eggs. These were used to store water in caches buried during times of plenty. Each had an engraved design that would relate to the owner or their family and when retrieved it would have been taboo to take another persons egg.

Ostrich egg containers have been found in ancient Egyptian and Etruscan tombs.

This collection has been accumulated over the last 15 years here in the U.K.
