Celestial Stool

3. The seat of this astonishing stool has delicate copper and tin work depictions of the sun, moon and stars, showing some phases of the moon and a partial eclipse. There are also two stylised representations of mountains. The central circle is probably the sun (now missing) This reminds one strongly of the ‘Nebra sky disc’ 1800 – 1600 BC pictured here. 

Uganda. Acholi? C1900. 

30cm tall and 28cm across the seat.
